Fertility For Everyone

The Fertility Center of Charleston believes in fertility for everyone and that it is every couples’ right to build their own family. Several opportunities exist at FCOC,The Fertility Center of Charleston, to help single patients as well as lesbian and gay couples to grow the families of their dreams. States Dr. Stephanie Singleton, “Families come in many different forms. We are here to help patients understand their options and provide them with all of the resources needed to start a family.”

LGBT couples experience some of the same issues that heterosexual couples face such as sperm quality and egg quality issues related to age and overall reproductive health. Therefore, Dr. Singleton speaks with each patient about recommendations for evaluations before investing in treatment options. Says one recent same sex couple, “I loved how thorough Dr. Singleton was from the very first meeting. I had a great feeling we were going to be successful. You feel like everyone is on the journey with you and everyone is equally excited that you are successful.”

For LGBT couples, there are more conservative options including Ovulation Induction with Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) as well as more aggressive ways to pursue higher pregnancy rates through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Single women and lesbian couples may consider the use of intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF) for family growth. For gay couples, a gestational carrier (i.e. a woman who gives birth to a baby for another individual or couple) and an egg donor are necessary. Whatever the method, one recently graduated same sex couple has advice for those considering fertility treatment, “My advice would be to meet Dr. Singleton first. Dr. Singleton is down to earth and incredibly intelligent. It is a tough journey and an emotional roller coaster and sometimes you need to hear that everything is going to be okay. Bedside manners matter.”

Dr. Stephanie Singleton and her team of fertility specialists at The Fertility Center of Charleston will assist in every step of the family building journey, from financial planning to the positive pregnancy test.
