In Spotlight

Celebrating over 10 years, Charleston Fashion Week (CFW) has grown in size, popularity, renown, and status not only in Charleston, but also across the South and throughout the Fashion Industry abroad.  The local community, business owners and government have all seen largely increased revenues generated due to CFW’s continued success.  In other Fashion Cities such as New York, the success of Fashion Week has spread to hundreds of different shows, platforms, events and mediums during their weeklong industry events.

This Saturday, Off Runway is our offering of another voice and another stage to enhance and expand a week in which has been so beneficial to Charleston, the South and to emerging designers.  It is their goal to share this abundance with other artisans, makers and creatives.

But what is Off Runway? Off Runway, A Community Affair, is the first event of its kind in Charleston, SC, created by local Owner, Designer and Creatrix of the slow, ethical fashion label Brooke Wilder Atelier, Gina Marie Roberts.  Imagined and inspired along with a budding collective of Charleston’s emerging designers, artists and makers, Off Runway came to life to offer a new kind of stage for collaboration, community, connection, conversation and a more abundant conscious economy.  She firmly believes as one succeeds, the collective whole expands and flourishes as well.

“Off Runway believes in shared growth and abundance.  That growth starts by featuring local, Southern, small, start up, slow, ethical, emerging, sustainable, regenerative, repurposing, hand crafted, make to order, custom, innovative, designers, artisans and creatives.” Gina, director of Off Runway says,  “Like our diverse community, fashion is more than apparel and accessories.  We believe fashion is an outward expression of an individual’s unique essence, which is expressed in their beauty, home, and families as well.  Not only will our stage feature original designs and collections, our Pop Up Creator’s Bazaar will offer products in all the areas Fashion.  We have added in an Artisan’s Workshop where guests can get hands on making experience allowing for a shared skills environment and offering the artisan’s another space to meet new customers at the event.”

The Off Runway Community Affair will be an immersive experience guests will eagerly anticipate, this year and years to come.

Off Runway Affair will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 2:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Runnymede Planation (3670 Ashley River Rd). This is a one day event showcasing up and coming designers, artisans and makers. Off Runway features a Pop Up Creator’s Bazaar with local makers and artisans, a Fashion Stage presenting amazing talents, an immersive VIP Lounge & Experience, beverage by Sweet LuLu’s Cocktail Caravan, local Food Truck Vendor First Name Basis, music and more still to be announced.

Off Runway is partnering and donating a portion of proceeds to local domestic violence shelter and advocate, Thrive SC. This past year I met the amazing Mackie Moore, Founder and Director of Thrive SC. THRIVE SC provides short-term and longer-stay transitional housing, cutting-edge services, and holistic resources for women and children survivors of domestic violence, from ALL income levels. THRIVE focuses not only on the immediate needs of safety, but also on the longer-term tools needed for a life of independence and empowerment. Mackie’s mission, drive and vision align with our visions of empowerment, support and community. We are proud to be working with and supporting Thrive SC and their growing mission. Thrive will have a presence at the event as well as offer additional sponsor perks for participation in Off Runway.

Off Runway will include a special guest, Romantic visual artist, pioneer, and unconventional southern gentleman designer, Jeff Garner and his sustainable, eco label Prophetik. He and his creations are on a path of transformation, leading the evolution of fashion and changing our perception of luxury. Mr. Garner was named one of 40 top artists in the US and his works were placed into the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery for the 40 under 40 Exhibition. Garner’s vivacity and his commitment to creating distinctive, sustainable, eco-friendly fashion is a reflection of his environment. Born in the Civil War town of Franklin, Tennessee, and raised on a horse farm, Garner cultivated a profound connection to nature and a peaceful understanding of the world. Garner has designed red carpet looks for the likes of Giselle Bundchen, Taylor Swift, Cameron Diaz, Rihanna, Miley Cirus, and Sheryl Crow. A few of Garner’s accolades include being named 2013 Up-and-coming designer of the year at Paris fashion week, an induction into he Smithsonian Museum and Tennessee State Museum. Top 10 gown of Oscar red carpet by Vogue, Sustainable designer of the year Vancouver, Men’s designer of the year GQ, etc.
